The
spirit of Bill Chase materializes full-force in this memorial album titled
"Watch Closely Now"
|
| It has been truly said that, "The
music of Bill Chase did not die with him. Not solely by virtue of its greatness,
but because it was not his alone, it was a collective force - an ensemble
concept - and he shared as much during and with its development as he did
cause it to be created... The planter is gone, but the growing season has
come again. With the yield and enrichment known before."
The lead trumpet parts, those that would have been played by Bill Chase, himself, are handled magnificently by Walt Johnson. As you listen to the album, it becomes abundantly apparent that Walt has been influenced tremendously by the trumpet style of Bill Chase. Walt Johnson has an extensive history of playing lead trumpet for a select list of stars of the music world. Walt has performed this function for Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Lionel Richie and is presently working with Frank Sinatra, Jr. Many of the arrangements on the album are by original "Chase" band member, Ted Piercefield. Former "Chase" band members Alan Ware, Jerry Van Blair, Gary Smith, Dennis Johnson, Bruce Gaitsch, Terry Richards, Jimmy Peterik and Ted Piercefield played and sang on the album thus ensuring that the sounds of "Chase" would persevere and that the rich artistry and musicianship contained in this album would measure up to the original "Chase" albums. |
